Organized in memory of the Vrancean coach who has prepared some of the most prestigious judokas of Vrancea and Romania during his career, the International Judo Tournament This year’s Aurel Cimpeanu Memorial has brought together 497 athletes from 56 judo clubs of six countries, all of which compete for U14, U16 and U18 respectively U14 and U16 females, as well as a strong OPEN tournament for seniors.
The final team rankings were as follows: 1st place – County Judo Association Vrancea, 2nd place – CSM Pitesti, 3rd place – SSC Sibiu Sibiu and Wolf Chişinău.
The Open for Seniors Tournament was won by the athlete Băldean Teodor from CJAM Bistrita Club, after a spectacular and highly contested final.
One of the most spectacular and explosive athletes, the great champion GEORGII ZANTARAIA was the special guest of the Memorial, along with him being present at the competition held in the Sports Hall in Focşani and the founder of the junior school of judo LUCIAN GRIGOROPOL, currently coach in the USA, holder of four dan dancing belt, together with his training colleague from the 70’s, ALI EDEN, currently professor in economics, teacher at ASE Bucharest, and ALINA CROITORU, the great sports alive, currently a judo coach at a sports club in Bucharest.
AUREL CÎMPEANU Memorial was honored by the presence of the Vice President of the Romanian Judo Federation HAMZA KARIMOV, who passionately supported the young participants during their Vrancean competition on their way to the great performance.
The sports event was organized by CSM Focşani 2007 and Judo County Association Vrancea in collaboration with the SAFETY ASSOCIATION and County Direction for Sport and Youth Vrancea, with the support of LPS Focşani, CSS Focşani and the Unirea Focşani Sports Club.
The sponsors of the competition were UMO Serv, ARTIFEX and PANDORA Prod, which is also supported by the City Hall of Focsani.
It is also worth mentioning the help given to the competition by Carrefour Focşani, Altdorf Tehnik, Conf Binale Mălinoiu, Girboiu Cellar and Rotary Club VARANA Focşani, as well as the involvement of the young volunteers Interact, contributing to the good performance of the sporting show.
The organizers’ gift for small judoka was the presence of GEORGII ZANTARAIA at the training stage organized in the Sports Hall in Focşani the day after the competition, offering the example to the approximately 200 young people present on tatami.
UMO Serv thanked the SECURITY ASSOCIATION for making it possible to bring the grand champion GEORGII ZANTARAIA for the 2017 Judo International Tournament, the presence of this legend of world judging being an additional motivation for the judoka youth in the Focsani competition.
It was an extraordinary competition with a high organizational and sporting level, the presence of these guests being extremely honorable for Focşani Municipality, a community that knows how to respect the sports champions of yesterday, today and tomorrow!
